A Rough Day

The past few days have been a little rough. Maybe because we have a carrot dangling in front of our face teasing us about going home. Mom and Alex REALLY want to go home but Alex hasn't eaten anything since Saturday. The doctors are worried about her nutritional intake. She is currently on TPN (a nutritional supplement through her PIC line) but this is not enough energy for her body. TPN can also scar the liver after an extended period of time. They would like to get her off of it ASAP but she will not eat. I got her to eat 5 bites of chicken noodle soup today but with in 20 minutes she had vomited everywhere. She have 5 or 6 vomit spells this afternoon. The suggestion from her doctors to correct this is to insert a feeding tube in her nose that goes past her stomach into the intestines, providing an opportunity for her body to absorb nutrition before she throws it up. This seems like a perfect idea, except for the fact that it is inserted surgically under anaesthesia. I don't have to mention our anxiety and concern with anaesthesia. We are very hesitate to do this but it may look like we don't have another option. It is possible that she will continue to throw up due to damage along her stomach lining if she does decide to eat. And if we stay on TPN, we could do serious damage to her liver. Please pray for us to make the right decision with Alex's nutrition. We feel like this has all gone on long enough, but the Lord has a plan. We really aren't sure what to do so we are waiting on an answer from above. Yes the Lord has brought us a very LONG way since 5 weeks ago, but we still have a little further to go. Now is not the time for us to stop praising, praying and seeking the Lord's way, otherwise we will be sure to stumble. Thank you again for all of your prayers and we will keep you posted!

On a positive note, Alex made a special request for the blog. She would like everyone to know that she got out of bed yesterday and used the bathroom in a bedside camode. You would have thought she had won the lottery. Never take for granted the power of a potty!
