Dialysis went well yesterday. Alex was cooperative and she has been for the most part. Occasionally we can get her to laugh. Sometimes she laughs so hard she starts to cough- which is frustrating for her. Since she has the vent, she only laughs with her belly. The vent keeps her from talking or making any noise. These past few days she has enjoyed listening to Berstain Bears books and listening to Beauty and the Beast and Hannah Montana.
The vent is set at an 8. She is breathing mostly on her own. The plan is to try and extubate on Monday if the weekend continues as is. Yesterday we had some issues with her oxygen dropping but she seems to be stable today. We can still extubate and keep her on oxygen assistance. It may be that she needs oxygen for a few weeks after she is extubated.
We are reminded every day that Alex's progress is in God's time, not ours. Throughout the Bible we can see where God's people were given promises on God's time, not theirs. We are trying to learn patience, but we are only human! We will continue to wait, pray, and Praise God for her progress!
