Now that Alex is fully awake we realize how important it is that we stay positive. As we all know she is her own worst enemy and even the mention of something can set her into a worrysome state. Today when she was able to get off the Bi-Pap machine for a few hours and get on oxygen mom said it was like Alex finally knew she was going to be OK. She has never been this sick before and although she has never said it we all know she is scared. So everyday we remind her that she will being going to Taylor Swift in September. That is our goal and for Alex to have such a large goal we know she will continue to fight. Each day that comes and we can find one positive thing then that is what we accent all day. Although she was upset she had to go back on the Bi-Pap machine she knows that tomorrow she will not have to wear it at all. The doctors do not want to push her lungs too hard. Since her lungs are so small for her large frame it will take a little longer than normal for her to get accustom to being off the vent.
Unfortunately the day was not perfect one of her blood cultures came back positive for bacteria so they began administering the antibiotics again. She is not running a high fever so hopefully the antibiotics will take action before the bacteria gets too comfy in her body. Our main fear is that the bacteria may set into the hemo catheter. That could cause major problem if that happens. If that hemo cath quits working it doesn't matter what her lungs are doing- if she can't dialysize then nothing else really matters. When she was dialysized today her blood pressure dropped dangerously low and they had to increase her epi. They think what happened is that they tried to pull off more fluid then what her body had to give. She will not dialysize tomorrow and they will not be as aggressive on Saturday and see how things go.
Her throat is getting better. She slept very well last night and napped throughout the day and when she was awake she was not asking for ice....as much. Tomorrow she may sit up in a chair. We are concerned at how her legs will hold up to that but it would be good for her to get out of bed. She has been in bed for three weeks so she has to start regaining her strength.
We know that God has helped her to breath and we know that when the time is right he will give her the strength to sit up and then walk.
